755A는 음악을 듣는 것을 목적으로 할때 아마도 최고의 플레인지인 것은 부정할 수 없다.

특히 가정에 작은 공간에서 잘 맞는 인클로져에 넣었을때, 그리고 싱글 앰프로 로딩할 때 어느 스피커보다 음악에 몰입할 수 있는 만족스러운 소리을 낸다.

다만, 그러기에 8인치가 알텍의 경우 400만원 웨스턴의 경우 1000만원을 호가한다.

그런데 소리에서도 두 스피커가 그 만큼 차이가 있을까?

결론부터 이야기하면 많은 755a를 수집하거나 설럽한 이들의 공통적인 의견은

알텍초/중기형 755a와 웨스턴755a는 차이가 없다는 것이다.

그 이유는 아마도 웨스턴의 제고를 인수받아서 알텍에서 생산하였기 때문이다. 그 부품들이 많은 차이가 있을 수 없다. 웨스턴은 단지 2년동안 제작하였고 알텍은 10여년 제작하였기에 웨스턴상표의 755a가 알텍에 비하여 아주 적은 수량이 만들어졌다. 

​Back when I had a quantity of different 755As on hand, I could not detect any significant difference in the early WE units compared to early/mid 50s Altec units....probably because the Altecs were built with parts handed down from Western stock, so there really wasn't much difference. Of course, WE branded 755As are far less common than Altecs since WE only made them for about 2 years and Altec cranked them out for a decade.

​음질의 차이는 각각의 유닛상태나  외곽 에지에 발라진 댐핑보호제의 경화정도에서 오는 경우가 크다.

​또한 모든 755는 4옴이 정상이다(전형적으로 DCR은 2.4~2.9 Ohm).  단지 8옴 알리코 755 변종은 Altec Lido 스피커의 우퍼(주름진 천에지에 755A마그넷과 프레임)로 사용된 755B로 알고 있다.

​All 755A versions are 4 ohm nominal (typically 2.4-2.9 ohms DCR). The only 8 ohm alnico 755 variant I know about is the 755B which was used as a woofer in the Altec Lido (corrugated cloth surround cone on an A frame/magnet). 

​자료에 따르면 755a는 1947년부터 생산되었다.

제작년도별로 분류하면 아래 사진 순서대로 이고, KS 버전도 알텍에서 생산된 것으로 추정된다.

Here's the 755A version that really goes for big cash. Why? No good reason, as far as I know. Very sexy though!

Altec Silver Hammertone 1954-58

Most common 755A version, found in AR-1 speaker. Some silver Altecs have the old style decal pictured above on the gray wrinkle unit. These were procured for Western Electric internal use and show up in WE wall cabinets and telephone office each mount cabinets and the like.
